A Short Introduction to Climate Literacy is an informational zine produced by the Center for Climate Literacy at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, with text by Dr. Marek Oziewicz and illustrations by Emma Ambrosi. The initial idea for this zine was to provide a brief and accessible way for the general public to learn about the concept of climate literacy, condensed into a pamphlet that could be handed out at events. From there, we talked about possible ways to organize and present the information—much of which was adapted from passages in previous publications by Dr. Oziewicz. Eventually, we decided on an infographic format, with nature-focused, scrapbook-style background illustrations.
The zine has been distributed both in print and digital formats. So far, printed pamphlets (which were cut and stapled by student staff at the Center for Climate Literacy) have been handed out across the UMN-TC campus, as well as at various tabling events, while the PDF version has mainly been shared via email. CCL also recently collaborated with Dr. Lorraine Kerslake of the University of Alicante, Spain, to produce a Spanish translation of the zine, which will also be distributed in both print and digital formats.
Overall, we hope that the information in this zine will teach people about the importance of climate literacy, empower them to help fight the current climate crisis, and help them maintain hope for a more eco-friendly future.
